Science and scholarship must always respond to the demands of society at the current time and provide a solution.

The events of recent years have demonstrated that major changes are happening with more frequency. We live in the context of global threats: hybrid wars, epidemics, pandemics, political and economic crises, and military conflicts. All this demands entirely new approaches in business/ security/ production/ science and other sectors that satisfy the parameters of our current times.

An individual who finds himself in the context of a global threat becomes a consequence of this “unknown war.” In such circumstances, the “rules of the game” are unknown, there are no precise forecasts, and the main question becomes “what to do?”

For this purpose, the European Academy of Sciences of Ukraine organized an International Interdisciplinary Conference, “Unknown Wars”, which addressed the problems of global threats and their impact on all spheres of life on an academic level.

The conference “Unknown Wars” (held on 15-19 July 2022) united more than 20 leading scholars, experts, and practitioners from about 10 countries on five online panels, where the following questions were discussed:

1) Current global threats: reasons for their existence and ways to rank/classify them
2) Founders of theories for neutralizing/combating global threats
3) Crises and emergencies, pandemics, war: what will happen next?
4) Political marketing as a permitted criminal phenomenon
5) What is going on in the world right now? Prognosis. What will happen next? What will the new order look like?
6) How to endure global transformations and benefit from them
7) Game with no rules: how to live in a system where rules and regulations have ceased to be effective?
8 ) The virtual versus the real: what will prevail and why?
9) Can modern science continue its existence in the same form, or does it need fundamental changes?
10) What new phenomena are we not yet ready for, but will have to face in a new global setting?

All these questions were discussed from viewpoints of different disciplines providing expert opinion of all speakers during the discussion panels. As for participants, they shared their views in papers they submitted.

“In the European Academy of Sciences of Ukraine international conference to discuss Unknown Wars in which I participated, one would be correct in expecting that the distinguished guests would be speaking about wars that took place without anyone, especially the general public, knowing about them as in “hidden” or “secret” wars which may of course abound undetected. From the perspective of someone like Juergen Habermas however the unknown label might also be applied to those conflicts which are misunderstood or incorrectly defined as in the accumulated mass media universe of contradictory statements claiming to be truthful.”
- Prof. Dr. Jerome Krase, President of EUASU

All papers (in English and Russian languages) of speakers and participants of the conference were included in the Collected papers book of Unknown wars Conference and published on the official conference website.

They are available to read and download here:
