International platform launches petition in support of Dr. Oleg Maltsev

The European Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is deeply concerned about the ongoing legal case against its Presidium member, Dr. Oleg Maltsev, which appears to be a case of malicious prosecution. This unjust action not only threatens his personal and professional reputation but also undermines the fundamental values of academic freedom and scientific integrity that we hold dear.

We call on the global scientific community to support Dr. Maltsev by signing the petition Demand Justice: Suspicion of Malicious Prosecution in Dr. Maltsev’s Case. This petition seeks to draw attention to the unjust legal proceedings against Dr. Maltsev, whose contributions to science have been of immeasurable value to both our Academy and the broader international research community.

Academic freedom is a cornerstone of scientific progress. It is vital that scientists can carry out their work without fear of unwarranted legal harassment or retaliation. The actions against Dr. Maltsev represent a serious threat to these freedoms, and it is essential that we, as a united scientific community, speak out in defense of these principles.

Dr. Maltsev is currently being held in the Odessa detention center, where the conditions of detention have been deemed inhuman and degrading, according to a report from the Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment. These conditions not only violate basic human rights but also pose a serious threat to Dr. Maltsev's health and life.

We urge all members of the scientific community, academic institutions, and researchers to sign the petition and share it within their networks. Now, more than ever, it is important to make our voices heard and show that we will not tolerate any actions that hinder the pursuit of knowledge and justice.

You may sign the petition anonymously by choosing not to display your name, and we encourage you to do so if you wish to maintain privacy. Please note that we are not asking for any monetary contributions. While the platform may offer an option to make donations, this is completely voluntary, and you can skip this step. What matters to us most is your vote in support of Dr. Maltsev and academic freedom.
